I now own one, thats right i finally managed to get myself an Xbox. For ages i've kept myself away from the big black box - thinking it looked ugly and that i have my PC for games. But now that the Crystal Xbox is out and the shops are begging you take to take them away i finally caved in and picked one up. After a little chat to the shop i swung 3 descent games and an extra controller for £140. So if there is no blogging or work done by me for a while its cause i've just borrowed and playing Simpsons, Hit & Run and terroising Springfield, before i try and Escape From Butcher Bay
Get it chipped Andy! If you think the xbox is cool; you haven't seen anything yet! It becomes a complete multimedia machine; stream radio, watch movies, backup games, play games off the harddisk its a thing of beauty. Google XBMC for a taste of what is being done.
Chipping... doesnt that void warranty and illegal? (held with his best stiffer upper lip)
I've looked into it actually. Just putting the games on HD would be nice as my one goes between here and the girlfriends house a lot. Can you skip Xbox Live with a chip as well??
I've looked into it too - you can get 'chips' which you can turn on/off should you wish to use Xbox live. Given the amount of probable hassle and how cheap Xboxs are it might be worth getting a second xbox for 'chipping'
When you have it chipped, the xbox can start in of two modes; the normal XBOX-GREEN which operates just like a normal xbox; allowing you to go onto the XBOX LIVE with no one worrying.
If you hold the button in, up comes XBOX-BLUE which throws you into EvolutionX OS. This has all the programs on it, for streaming, browsing the net, telnet, ftp, web, shoutcast radio etc etc. You can also play movies/music from any network share on your network. You can also play DVDs without the DVD kit.
I bought my XBOX already chipped, and after christmas will be ordering another one for the bedroom. We watch movies/dvds more than we play games. Infact its been a long time since a game was actually played on our xbox!
