iPod - worth the hype

Well after my Xbox purchase and walking around the shops looking at them for over a month or two deciding if i needed one i finally brought an iPod. I got the 20gb model which holds something like 5000 songs, and all i can say is COOL! I didnt think they were worth the hype, but they are!! If you havent got one yet and thinking i might just get a cheaper MP3 player, don't! the playlist, album, genre, artist, composer break down lists make it work it alone. Plus even iTunes simplicity is making me move away from Window Media player.

I still don't think i'll use iTunes to buy music as i like having the real thing, and i do still use those near outdated things called CD's

Congrats on the iPod man...I too have a 20Gb 4th Gen. I use the Belkin iTrip to listen to it in my car, and it's become a an extension of myself that travels everywhere with me. Nothing like having my personal radio station with me in my pocket.

I resisted using iTunes to buy music for a while, but there's been a few times I've wanted to buy just one or two songs instead of an entire CD, so I've tried it out. Its simplicity and smoothness are second to none. It's so easy that the last time I wanted a full album (Wilco's A.M.), I was lazy just used iTunes instead of driving to the store.

Silly question, isnt the iTrip illegal over here in the UK, cause basically you are broadcasting a radio station??

Not that i care that much,at £24.95 you cant complain!

I just recieved an iTrip for christmas and love it. Plus I got the little Belkin "cup holder" thing that holds my iPod in place. It is much nicer than having it on the passeger seat or loosely balanced in the cupholder.

I don't know if they are illegal anywhere, but the broadcast power is so low I can't imagine anyone would enforce it. For best results with the iTrip make sure you find a very isolated frequency - ideally with no channel on either side of it. For instance I use 89.7 because all three (89.5, 89.7, and 89.9) are devoid of broadcasts. The iTrip isn't as perfect as true radio integration but its close enough for me!

Enjoy your iPod. I have a 3g 30Gig one and love it. And remember if you buy songs on iTunes you can always burn them to CD (I also recommend iOpener if you think you might own more than 5 computers for the rest of your life).

I bought my fiance a 40GB iPod (not one for me... still not sure why ;o) ) a while back - and i had rigged up my car stereo with an external input via a headphone jack..(to play music with my nokia 6230)

One iPod Car charger, and a docking station later - and all of a sudden we have our own driving ipod! :o)

Works a treat.

Also found ephPod (http://www.ephpod.com/) is a awesome free alternative to iTunes if you are sick of 'syncing' your music, and just want to add and delete it.
