The merger and Homesite

Here's a wild thought!

When Macromedia took over Allaire then did some mild updates to Homesite then pretty much killed the development - fair play, they did have Dreamweaver afterall.

So if all goes well "could" enough support get HS+ 5.5 development started again (surely with Adobes abundance cash then could through some at HS) or would it now mean total death for the ageing editor?

Update: Just noticed Nick Bradbury has had the Same thought, with some good comments posted.

I would venture to say that Its going to go more like dreamweaver with golive's css support and thats about it. I would imagine that they will strip to the essentials and keep their money makers going for a while after the deal is completed. Not sure though, it would be good to have a pure coldfusion ide. But I wouldn't mind if they just integrated coldfusion better within dreamweaver.

It would be nice but doubtful. Can't imagine Macromedia makes ANY money on Homesite sales.

What would be nice is if they released it as an open source project or something akin to CFEclipse and let the community support it... but again - that's doubtful as well.

Your email to Nick's site doesn't work because it's a trackback link.

I personally would hope Homsite get abandoned and bought back by Nick to keep it alive and updated. ;-)

Doug, the links now working thanks.

Also i dont think Nick will go near it again. I think he's even blogged about this. Since he's now got his own HTML and CSS editor - with a good user base as well.
