My new tool has arrived and I have no idea what to do

WooHoo, it finally arrived. My old 1.25 AMD (Yes I really have been using something that slow) has finally died and gone to the great motherboard in the skies. Thats right I decided to be in the minority and get a Mac Book Pro - Hold on a minute everyone has got one now D'oh. x

Well I did it. Im here on a dual 2.16ghz book pro and gotta say just one thing - "Wheres the second mouse button". Damn I miss that little sucker.

So far though so good, I have no idea what im doing as my experience of using a Mac come from hanging around the Mac shop in Oxford Street once or twice and seeing Mark Drew run demos on his at UKCFUG meetings. I can see a backspace key at the moment but no Delete. The @ and " are the wrong way round which begs the question @should I have a US layout keyboard@ - those @'s should be "'s.

Well i'm off to see how much damage I can do to this thing in one night. Appreciation goes out to my girlffriend for putting up with me. Thanks babe x

Be warned, if you've blogged that you have a Mac Book i'm gonna be hassling you!!

Wish me luck

......now where's that MS Start Key gone!

You're going to love that new toy! I just made the switch myself a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it so far. Now if I could just figure out how to permanently mount a network drive...

Fn+Backspace key will get you the equivalent of a Delete key.

Keep in mind...more than likely this transition will be painful at times. Mostly because getting CF running on there is no small task (oh, and if you are not familiar with Linux or command-line stuff like me...its a bit tougher). However, if a Mac noob and command-line-idiot like me got it running...anyone can. Go with the directions on http://webmages.com/cfmxIntelOSXguide.html and I wish ye luck! Welcome to the club (of sorts).

Get a real mouse with 2 buttons - it saved my sanity.

Give the Mac a little time and you'll love it. I switched several years ago and have never looked back. Best of luck to you on your new adventure!

Hi Andy,

Congrats and good luck with the pro. I got a MacBook just over a month ago and if only I could find the time to port to it, it should be great :->

Also, go get Parallels ASAP. I have CF, MSSQL and IIS under Parallels so I can mimic my production environment, and I'll get CF and Apache working on the Mac as soon as I can get the patience to go through the steps Brian linked to earlier!

Best Wishes,
Peter

Andy! Welcome to the club (ok, 19 Million people in the club aparently.. but hey!) To do right click on your laptop, you do Ctrl + click. Get a Bluetooth mighty mouse and you are onto a winner (not sure it works under windows yet... will let you know)

Just ping me (through iChat :)) and I can help you out.. check out gTalks help pages on setting up iChat with Gtalk

Let's see if I can remember this correctly as my MacBook hasn't arrived yet, but you should be able to simulate right-click. Go into system properties/preferences and there should be options for two-finger scrolling and clicking. I wish I could remember the exact names, but you should be able to figure it out. Once that is enabled you can simulate right click by placing a second finger on the trackpad and clicking the button.

I just tried that and it worked a charm (hadnt noticed before)
Only pity is that it dont work when you are under windows in BootCamp... pants! Oh well, I am going to try and rely more on Parallels

(as a note, I normally, for various reasons, develop under WindowsXP using BootCamp, today I have managed to develop under OSX all day and its a pleasure!)
