After the upgrade to Mountain Lion this morning Apache wasn't starting, it wasn't a big issue but finding it can be when the logs aren't being produced. So, whenever there is a problem always start with a syntax check for config files via the following via the -t option, on the Mac I ran the following:
$ sudo apachectl -t
