Cancel broadband. There's free wi-fi to be had

Todd Mitchell has a good post about Wi-Fi with no WEP WPA protection. Shamefully i live out in the equilivant to the suburbs so i hardly get to experience this. But the other day i was in London for a couple of nights on work - I get to my B&B fire up the lappy - low and behold - a couple of Wi-Fi points pop up. One encrypted the other not. Happy days. A little dangerous but i had to check some emails (work proxies ban Gmail) so i did that and headed out, when i got back they had vanished. Is this really that common? I know about War Chalking, but i thought when this was made so public admin's woke up and smelt the possible lawsuits? How many other people surfed, or know of free wi-fi?
